Our Signature Autumn Desserts + Recipes
There is something different about baking in the fall.
Maybe it’s the first morning when there’s a chill in the air.
Maybe it’s opening the windows and letting that crisp autumn breeze move through the kitchen.
Maybe it’s the apples sitting on the counter, the cinnamon waiting in the spice cabinet, or the jar of apple butter tucked away for something special.
Or maybe it’s simply the way fall baking makes the whole house smell like home.
Whatever it is, we love it.
At Not Your Grams Kitchen, fall isn’t just a season on the calendar.
It’s a season you can taste.
It’s brown butter.
It’s toasted pecans.
It’s apples and maple.
It’s warm spices.
It’s caramel dripping down the side of a dessert.
It’s coffee beside a slice of something still slightly warm.
And most importantly, it’s the memories we create while making it.
So after exploring the history of apple butter, the story of the Great American Pie, and the flavors that have come to define autumn baking, we thought it was time to open the kitchen door and share some of our signature fall creations.
Welcome to fall at Not Your Grams Kitchen.
🍎 What Does Fall Taste Like?
If we had to put autumn into one recipe, we’d probably have a difficult time.
There are simply too many flavors.
Apple.
Pumpkin.
Pecan.
Maple.
Brown sugar.
Caramel.
Cinnamon.
Nutmeg.
Ginger.
Clove.
Vanilla.
And, of course, butter.
Lots and lots of butter.
But fall isn’t really about any one ingredient.
It’s about what happens when they come together.
A simple apple becomes something completely different after it has been cooked with brown sugar and cinnamon.
Butter becomes something extraordinary when it’s allowed to brown.
Maple syrup brings an almost woodsy sweetness.
Pecans become richer when toasted.
And apple butter?
Well, apple butter can turn an ordinary dessert into something that tastes like it has a story behind it.
That’s the kind of baking we love.
🥧 Our Signature Autumn Dessert No. 1
Harvest Moon Apple Butter Pie
If autumn had a signature pie at Not Your Grams Kitchen, this would be it.
Our Harvest Moon Apple Butter Pie combines apple butter with brown butter, maple syrup, warm spices and a buttery pecan streusel.
Then we finish it with a maple caramel drizzle.
It’s not quite apple pie.
It’s not pumpkin pie.
It’s not pecan pie.
It’s a little bit of all the things we love about fall wrapped into one dessert.
The Filling
Apple butter gives this pie an incredibly concentrated apple flavor without requiring a mountain of sliced apples.
Brown butter adds a toasted, nutty richness.
Maple syrup brings sweetness and depth.
And cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, cardamom and cloves create that unmistakable autumn warmth.
Then comes the pecan streusel.
Because every good fall dessert deserves a little crunch.
The Not Your Grams Kitchen Finish
Serve it with vanilla ice cream and a generous drizzle of maple caramel.
And if nobody is watching?
Add a few toasted pecans on top.
We won’t tell.
🍏 Signature Autumn Dessert No. 2
Salted Caramel Apple Butter Crumble Bars
If the Harvest Moon Pie is autumn sitting down for Thanksgiving dinner, these bars are autumn showing up at your back door saying:
“I brought dessert.”
These bars start with a buttery brown-sugar crust.
Then comes a layer of spiced apple butter.
Then a chunky oat-and-pecan crumble.
Then, because apparently we have no self-control when it comes to fall desserts…
salted caramel.
The combination of sweet apple butter, buttery crumble, toasted pecans and salty caramel is almost unfair.
They’re perfect alongside coffee, easy to cut into individual portions, and exactly the kind of dessert that disappears from a dessert table without anyone admitting to taking the last piece.
Our favorite way to serve them:
Slightly warm.
A little extra caramel.
A scoop of vanilla ice cream.
And a cup of strong coffee.
You’re welcome.
🍯 Signature Autumn Dessert No. 3
Honey Bun Coffee Cake
There are some desserts that feel like they belong beside a coffee pot.
Our Honey Bun Coffee Cake is one of them.
Soft, tender cake.
Brown sugar.
Cinnamon.
A ribbon of sweet filling.
And that unmistakable honey-bun warmth.
It’s the kind of cake that works for breakfast, brunch, an afternoon coffee break or dessert.
Honestly?
We’re not interested in deciding what category it belongs in.
If someone wants to eat cake with their morning coffee, that’s between them and their coffee mug.
Why it belongs in our fall collection
Because not every autumn dessert needs apples or pumpkin.
Sometimes fall tastes like cinnamon and brown sugar.
Sometimes it tastes like walking into the kitchen and finding a cake waiting on the counter.
Sometimes the simplest flavors create the biggest memories.
🍎 Before We Bake: The Heart of Our Fall Kitchen
There’s something important about all three of these desserts.
They aren’t complicated for the sake of being complicated.
They’re built around familiar ingredients.
Ingredients people recognize.
Ingredients that have been appearing in American kitchens for generations.
But we like giving those familiar flavors a little twist.
That’s one of the things Not Your Grams Kitchen is all about.
Old recipes. New memories.
We don’t believe you have to completely reinvent a classic to make it special.
Sometimes you just have to look at it differently.
🫙 The Ingredient That Started It All: Apple Butter
Apple butter deserves a special place in our fall kitchen.
Historically, apple butter was a way to preserve an abundant apple harvest.
Today, it has become one of our favorite ways to bring concentrated apple flavor into baking.
And that’s exactly why you’ll find it appearing throughout our autumn recipes.
It adds sweetness.
It adds spice.
It adds moisture.
But most importantly, it adds depth.
A spoonful of apple butter can make a recipe taste like it’s been cooking for hours.
And that’s a flavor we can’t resist.
🍂 The Not Your Grams Kitchen Fall Pantry
If you want to recreate some of our autumn flavors at home, we’d recommend keeping a few things nearby.
🍎 Apples
Honeycrisp, Gala, Fuji, Pink Lady and Granny Smith can all bring something different to fall baking.
🫙 Apple Butter
The star of several of our autumn recipes.
🍁 Pure Maple Syrup
For sweetness with depth.
🧈 Butter
And yes, we absolutely believe there is a difference between ordinary butter and beautifully browned butter.
🌰 Pecans
Because we’re a Southern kitchen.
Need we say more?
🌿 Cinnamon
The unofficial scent of fall.
🫚 Ginger
A little warmth and bite.
🌰 Nutmeg & Cardamom
For that deeper, more complex spice profile.
🍯 Brown Sugar
Because sometimes white sugar just isn’t enough.
🧂 Flaky Sea Salt
The secret weapon against overly sweet desserts.
Sweet + salty is a beautiful thing.
☕ The Perfect Fall Baking Ritual
One of our favorite things about baking isn’t actually the finished dessert.
It’s the ritual.
Put the coffee on.
Turn on the oven.
Pull out the mixing bowls.
Measure the flour.
Brown the butter.
Put on some music.
Let the kitchen warm up.
And before you know it, something wonderful is happening.
The smell starts moving through the house.
Someone wanders into the kitchen.
Then someone else.
And eventually you hear:
“Is that for us?”
That’s when you know you’ve done it right.
🥧 A Few More Fall Favorites From Our Kitchen
Of course, these aren’t the only flavors that belong in an autumn kitchen.
We’re dreaming about:
🍎 Apple Butter Braided Desserts
Golden, tender pastry wrapped around spiced apple butter and baked until beautifully caramelized.
🌰 Brown Butter Chai Snowball Cookies
Our classic snowball cookie gets a fall makeover with nutty brown butter and warm chai spices.
🍪 Santa’s Favorite Chocolate Chip Cookies
Because eventually autumn gives way to the holiday season—and we’re always thinking ahead.
🍯 Honey-Glazed Braided Bread
Soft, golden and perfect for tearing apart beside a cup of coffee.
Fall baking has a way of leading us straight toward Christmas.
We’re not complaining.
❤️ Why We Bake
This is perhaps the most important part of the story.
We don’t bake simply because we like dessert.
We bake because food brings people together.
A pie gives people a reason to gather around a table.
Cookies give someone a reason to stop by.
A coffee cake turns an ordinary morning into something special.
A loaf of bread can remind somebody of their grandmother.
A familiar smell can bring back a memory you didn’t even realize you still had.
That’s the magic of baking.
You aren’t just making food.
You’re making memories that happen to be edible.
🍂 The Cottage Kitchen
There is something especially meaningful about creating these recipes in a cottage kitchen.
Small batches.
Handmade desserts.
Recipes developed one at a time.
Ingredients measured carefully.
Every pie crust handled by hand.
Every crumble sprinkled across the top.
Every cookie shaped individually.
There isn’t a giant factory behind what we do.
There is a kitchen.
There are ingredients.
There are recipes.
There is a whole lot of love.
And hopefully, there is someone waiting at the other end of it who takes that first bite and thinks:
“Wow.”
That’s the goal.
🥧 Our Fall Baking Philosophy
At Not Your Grams Kitchen, we have a simple philosophy:
Don’t be afraid to change a recipe.
Use the recipe as a starting point.
Taste.
Experiment.
Add a little cinnamon.
Try brown butter.
Toast the pecans.
Add a touch of maple.
Finish something sweet with a little salt.
That’s how new traditions are born.
Someone changes an old recipe.
Someone else tastes it.
They make it again.
Then they teach someone else.
And before you know it, the recipe has become part of the family.
🍁 A Table Full of Fall
Imagine this:
A Harvest Moon Apple Butter Pie sitting in the center of the table.
Salted Caramel Apple Butter Crumble Bars beside it.
A Honey Bun Coffee Cake waiting on a wooden board.
A bowl of apples nearby.
Pecans scattered across the table.
A jar of apple butter.
A pot of coffee.
Maybe some candles.
Maybe a little music.
And people.
That’s what we’re really baking for.
Not the perfect Instagram photograph.
Not the perfectly decorated dessert.
Not even the recipe itself.
We’re baking for the people who gather around the table.
❤️ From Our Kitchen to Yours
Fall doesn’t last forever.
The leaves will eventually fall.
The days will get shorter.
The weather will turn colder.
And before long, we’ll be talking about Christmas cookies, holiday breads and everything that comes with the season.
But for now…
Let’s slow down.
Let’s bake.
Let’s make something warm.
Let’s put the kettle on.
Let’s fill the kitchen with cinnamon and apples and brown sugar.
Let’s make a pie that isn’t quite like anybody else’s.
Let’s make a dessert that becomes somebody’s favorite.
Let’s make something worth remembering.
Because that’s what Not Your Grams Kitchen has always been about.
Old recipes.
New memories.
And a little bit of love in everything we make.
So from our kitchen to yours…
Pull out the mixing bowl.
Preheat the oven.
And let autumn begin.
🍂 Happy Fall from Not Your Grams Kitchen. ❤️

Ingredients
🍰 Cake
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- ½ tsp ground nutmeg
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- ½ cup light brown sugar, packed
- 3 large eggs
- 2 tsp pure vanilla extract
- ½ cup honey
- 1 cup sour cream
- ½ cup buttermilk
🍯 Honey Bun Filling
- ¾ cup light brown sugar, packed
- ½ cup finely chopped toasted pecans
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1½ tsp cinnamon
- ¼ tsp salt
- 3 tbsp melted butter
- 2 tbsp honey
🤍 Honey-Vanilla Glaze
- 1½ cups powdered sugar
- 2 tbsp honey
- 2 tbsp melted butter
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 2–3 tbsp warm milk or heavy cream
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
1. Prepare the pan
Preheat oven to 350°F.
Grease a 9×13-inch baking pan and line the bottom with parchment paper, leaving a little overhang for easy removal.
2. Make the filling
Combine brown sugar, pecans, flour, cinnamon and salt.
Stir in the melted butter and honey until the mixture resembles a moist, crumbly streusel.
Set aside.
3. Make the cake batter
Whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon and nutmeg.
In a separate large bowl, cream the softened butter, granulated sugar and brown sugar for 3–4 minutes, until light and fluffy.
Beat in the eggs one at a time.
Add vanilla and honey.
Mix until combined.
In another bowl, whisk together sour cream and buttermilk.
Add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture in three additions, alternating with the sour cream mixture. Begin and end with the dry ingredients.
Don’t overmix. Stop as soon as everything comes together.
4. Build the Honey Bun
Spread half of the batter into the prepared pan.
Sprinkle the honey-bun filling evenly over the batter.
Drizzle the filling with the additional 2 tablespoons of honey.
Carefully spread the remaining batter over the filling.
Here’s a little trick: spoon the batter around the surface first, then gently spread it with an offset spatula. It keeps you from dragging the filling through the cake.
5. Create the signature swirl
Using a butter knife, make several gentle S-shaped swirls through the batter.
Don’t go too deep—you want ribbons of filling rather than mixing everything together.
6. Bake
Bake for approximately 40–48 minutes, or until:
- The center is set.
- The top is golden brown.
- A toothpick inserted into the cake portion comes out with a few moist crumbs.
Don’t overbake it. The sour cream and honey are what give this cake that wonderfully soft honey-bun texture.
Let the cake cool for about 15 minutes.
🍯 The Honey-Vanilla Finish
While the cake is still warm, whisk together powdered sugar, honey, melted butter, vanilla and salt.
Add warm milk or cream, one tablespoon at a time, until you have a thick but pourable glaze.
Drizzle generously over the warm cake.
For the true Not Your Grams Kitchen treatment, let some of that glaze run down into the cinnamon crevices.
Let it rest another 20–30 minutes before slicing.
🍂 Little Twist
For an especially beautiful fall version, add ½ teaspoon of apple pie spice to the filling and replace half of the pecans with finely chopped toasted walnuts.
And if you want to make it dangerously good…
Warm an individual slice for about 10–12 seconds and serve it with a tiny drizzle of honey.
The cinnamon-brown sugar filling gets soft and gooey again, while the honey comes alive.
